The Future for Beginners
In this fast-paced interactive simulation, players take charge of producing a major cultural festival in the face of an approaching typhoon. Combining systems-modelling with hands-on, tactile gaming, this game places the future of this small peninsula in your capable hands.
Five towns are about to launch a major cultural festival showcasing the region’s unique arts, music, food and sporting prowess. This is going to revitalise the area and make these towns internationally famous. Three days before the opening ceremony, a tropical depression in the ocean has strengthened into a category five typhoon, heading straight for the peninsula. Now, the town leaders need to decide: will they cancel the festival and focus on disaster preparation? Or will they push ahead and create an unforgettable experience in the face of disaster?
'The Future for Beginners' is a hands-on climate simulation as part of the London Design Biennale. Working together, participants will have the chance to transform this quiet peninsula into a world-famous cultural hub, in the face of escalating climate shocks.
'The Future for Beginners' is created by David Finnigan, Melanie Frances and Becky-Dee Trevenen, in partnership with Chatham House and London Design Biennale.
