SUR ANDINA

‘SUR ANDINA’ invites visitors into the heart of the Andean world, where sound, light, and materiality converge to evoke ancestral knowledge and the living pulse of the land. Through immersive textures, shifting forms, and resonant vibrations, the installation offers a sensory journey into the forces that shape our bond with nature and cultural memory.

Created by Madre Tierra Designers—founded by textile artist Cindy Lilen and sound artist Iliana Díaz López—the work reflects their commitment to honouring identity, legacy, and sustainability. By weaving ancestral craftsmanship with contemporary design and immersive technologies, they channel the spirit of Andean culture into a present-day experience that speaks across time.

The installation unveils Cosmovisional Sound Stories—a series of immersive compositions inspired by Andean oral traditions. Blending ancestral myths with cultural memory, these soundscapes transcend language—blending music and realistic sound design. This auditory journey invites a timeless connection to the past and a reflection on the enduring wisdom of Andean cosmology.

Woven fibres and sculpted light create a tactile landscape, shaped by natural materials sourced from the Andean regions. Handcrafted textures capture the essence of traditional weaving, while light breathes through organic forms, shifting with the rhythm of the space. This interplay of material and illumination invites visitors to engage not only visually but through touch and movement.

Guided by texture and echo, the installation becomes a terrain of memory—of rugged peaks, flowing waters, and ancient knowledge shaped by nature and human hands. Rather than offering a single story, ‘SUR ANDINA’ invites each visitor to sense, interpret, and connect in their own way.

The Andes are not just a place but a presence, humming beneath the surface, waiting for those who pause to listen.
